Oiling wooden decks is one of the most important aspects of their maintenance.
Many people undertake this task on their own, sometimes using products that are not suitable for tropical hardwoods.

Wooden decks are made from carefully selected types of wood that require special care and do not respond well to low-quality oils. For best results, it’s wise to hire a professional who will carry out the oiling using proper equipment and the best products suitable for the specific type of wood.

Decks are typically oiled once or twice per year — before the season starts and/or after it ends — though oiling once a year may also suffice. The process isn’t overly demanding if the right tools and materials are used. The surface must first be thoroughly cleaned, and if possible, any remaining old oil (which may trap dirt) should be removed. Then, using a wide brush or roller, the wood is evenly coated with high-quality oil that penetrates the surface and protects it effectively.

The benefits of oiling are visible immediately, but most importantly, they are long-lasting.
It protects the wood surface and significantly extends its lifespan. Moreover, a well-maintained deck remains comfortable to walk on barefoot.

If the deck is not oiled, a grayish patina will typically develop after 6–10 months.
