KEROWOOD PRODUCT MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
Kerowood bamboo lines M – Comfort and D-Luxury for external surfaces are natural products that can change colour and structure.
All outdoor wooden floors made of natural material change and turn grey or dark over the years. Most of the natural outer layers begin to get a rougher look. This can be slowed with the appropriate oil. The oil retains the original appearance of the wood and impregnates it further. The use of protective coatings for KERO bamboo is not recommended as it has a unique density and thermal treatment to prevent chemical intrusion. KERO Bamboo also has protection against decay and rotting as it is thermally treated. KERO bamboo is cleaned with water that can be mixed with a mild detergent. Cleaning with a high-pressure cleaner is possible from a distance of about 30 centimeters.
Normal phenomena:
Cracks on the surface and at the end of the boards occur due to different characteristics of drying the surface and cross-cuts. This does not affect the stability or resistance of the board.
The surface area of the boards will eventually become rough and, due to the continuous absorption of water and desorption because of dry and wet weather periods, create (small) chips. Dimensional changes can occur after the installation, and the boards may become corrugated. These phenomena are normal for most types of hardwood and Kerowood bamboo. The change in surface shape is not a material malfunction.
Cleansing grinding of wooden terraces
Cleansing grinding is recommended after about 3 years, usually in the spring, before the season begins. Thus the terrace will be as ready for use as possible. During the summer months, and also during the winter, dirt inevitably gathers on the terrace, and the effects of the weather and wear begin to show. These effects can be pretty noticeable, but they can also be quite invisible – the surface of the wooden flooring becomes rough, and scales appear that cannot be easily seen. However, we can feel them when walking barefoot on the terrace, and the rough wood will contain moisture and not dry effectively, which leads to a faster decaying of the terrace.
Surface dirt and potentially problematic board damage are successfully combated by cleansing griding of the wooden terrace. It is, of course, advisable that an expert with the appropriate equipment does it. Grinding is usually done by an excentric electric grinder Kerowood PRO Cleaner with fine granulation, which allows effective elimination of dirt, old oil, and surface defects without invading the wood. Thus we successfully extend the lifespan of the wooden terrace, and we also embellish the surface vigorously and prepare it for oiling. The waste dust and the dirt that comes from grinding are thoroughly vacuumed, and then we can start oiling.
Oiling of wooden terraces
Oiling of the terrace is mentioned even more frequently and is, as a rule, carried out more regularly. Many undertake the task themselves, sometimes even with means that are not suitable for tropical types of wood. For wooden terraces, carefully selected types of wood, which require special care and do not tolerate cheap oils, are used. For the best effect, it is therefore wise to find an expert who will carry out the oiling with professional equipment and the best means suitable for each type of wood.
As a rule, terraces are oiled one to two times a year, before and after the end of the season, but they can also be oiled only once. The procedure is not overly demanding if appropriate equipment and the right means are used. First, the surface must be thoroughly cleaned and, if possible, the layer of old oil where there is also a lot of dirt removed. Then, using a wide brush or roller, the wood is evenly coated with a quality oil that is absorbed into the wood and thus protects it well.
The advantages of oiling are evident immediately and, above all, become noticeable over a long period of time. Thus we protect the surface of the wood and ensure a longer lifespan, while at the same time, we can also walk barefoot on the well-cared-for terrace.
If the terrace is not oiled, a gray patina appears after 4-6 months.
