MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS FOR KEROWOOD BAMBOO – LINE M COMFORT & D LUXURY OUTDOOR DECKING
Kerowood bamboo decking from the M – Comfort and D – Luxury lines is a natural product, which means that changes in color and surface texture may occur over time.
All outdoor wooden flooring made from natural materials changes over the years, turning either grey or darker. Most natural exterior deckings develop a rougher look. This process can be slowed down by using appropriate oil. The oil helps maintain the original look and provides additional protection. Protective coatings are not recommended for KERO Bamboo due to its unique density and thermal treatment, which prevent chemical absorption. KERO Bamboo is also naturally resistant to rot and decay thanks to its thermal treatment.
Cleaning can be done with water mixed with mild detergent. Pressure cleaning is possible from a distance of approximately 30 cm.
NORMAL OCCURRENCES
Surface cracks and end grain checks may appear due to drying characteristics and cross-cutting. These do not affect the board’s stability or durability.
Over time, the surface may become rough and small splinters may appear due to repeated wetting and drying. Dimensional changes or warping may also occur after installation. These are normal for most hardwoods and Kerowood Bamboo. Such changes are not considered material defects.
ANNUAL SANDING
We recommend surface sanding once per year, usually in spring before the new season. This prepares the deck for optimal use. Over time, dirt and signs of wear accumulate—some visible, others not. The surface may become rough, retain moisture, and deteriorate more quickly.
Sanding removes dirt, old oil, and minor surface damage using a fine-grit electric orbital sander. It is best done by a professional. After sanding, vacuum the surface thoroughly before oiling.
OILING THE DECK
Oiling is essential and usually done once or twice per year (before and/or after the season). Many homeowners attempt oiling themselves, but tropical hardwoods require specialized care and high-quality oil. Incorrect products can cause damage.
For best results, hire a professional who uses proper tools and suitable oil.
The process includes:
Thorough cleaning
Removal of old oil if needed
Application of oil with a wide brush or roller for even absorption
Benefits of oiling are immediate and long-term—it enhances appearance, protects the surface, and allows barefoot walking without discomfort.
If not oiled, the deck will naturally develop a grey patina after approximately 4–6 months.
