Cleaning sanding is recommended approximately every three years, typically carried out in spring before the start of the season. This ensures the deck is optimally prepared for use.

Throughout the summer and even during winter, dirt inevitably accumulates on the deck, along with signs of weather exposure and wear. These effects can be quite visible, but in many cases they remain unnoticed – the surface becomes rough, and small flakes form, which are not easily visible. However, they can be felt when walking barefoot. Additionally, rough wood retains moisture and does not dry effectively, which leads to faster deterioration of the deck.

To combat surface dirt and potentially problematic damage to the decking, cleaning sanding is highly effective. It is advisable to have it done by a professional with the right equipment.

Sanding is typically performed with an electric eccentric sander such as the Kerowood PRO Cleaner using fine grit, which efficiently removes dirt, old oil, and surface imperfections without cutting too deep into the wood. This significantly extends the lifespan of the wooden deck, improves its appearance, and prepares it for oiling.

The process includes sweeping the deck, sanding it with the machine, thoroughly vacuuming all sanding dust and debris, and then proceeding with the oiling.
